Motherhood: On Adoption

My motherhood journey started when we welcomed our first foster child into our home. That little boy made me a foster mama and a couple of years later, I became a forever mama when we adopted our oldest daughter from foster care. And again the following year when we adopted her baby sister and our youngest daughter.

Becoming a mom through foster care gave me the opportunity to experience lots of highs and lows and navigate trauma informed parenting.

Our girls are our greatest gifts and we are eternally thankful for them and the impact they have already had on our lives. I can’t wait to see the impact they have on this world. Adoption is beautiful and it also comes with grief and loss and to ignore that piece of it would be ignorant.

We want to honor our girls’ stories and let them share if and when they want to. Navigating motherhood, adoption, trauma informed parenting is hard and messy and it’s also exciting and fun and adventurous. One thing that is unchanged in everything is the love I have for my daughters. They have my heart forever.
